First Run at MagicaVoxel

So I was recently introduced to MagicaVoxel, a voxel editor that is known for producing 3D pixel images. It seems to have a strong following for indie developers who need to create art assets.

Essentially you create a workspace and then build up a 3D image by adding and erasing 1×1 squares. There is a limited set of tools but a great amount of functionality in such a small program.

So I thought what the heck, I’ll try my hand. Unfortunately I didn’t have a ton of time to play around so I decided to take it a bit easy on myself. I decided to replicate Spongebob Squarepants. The real reason, he is already the perfect shape to create a pixelized model so I could concentrate on learning how to use the program instead of developing an idea.

The other thing great about this program, is the many export options available. I exported my model as an iso.png, you can take a look at what I was able to create below.

I would recommend giving the program a try and I would love to see what your able to create. So if anyone makes anything please share the link below, and please leave me some feedback.
